  14.                              Overview
  15.  
  16.      Dialer is a popup, speed dialer which, when coupled with a Hayes
  17. compatible modem, provides a quick and convenient method of dialing
  18. phone numbers.  A customizeable pulldown menu allows you add names
  19. and numbers you frequently call.
  20.      The Names option under the Dial menu allows you to maintain
  21. the names and phone numbers in your Dialer menu.  For example,
  22. to add a name and phone number select Dial Names.  The Names dialog
  23. will appear, from which you can now select the Add button, upon which
  24. a final dialog will appear, which is where you enter the name as it will
  25. appear under the Dial menu and the phone number to be dialed upon
  26. selection.  Select Save, and Save again, and the name should now appear
  27. under the Dial menu.
  28.      When a name is selected from the Dial menu, the number being dialed
  29. will appear in the edit field above the numeric keypad.  Then dialer
  30. will begin dialing the number (including the prefix if configured) and
  31. display the call in progress information at the bottom of the dialpad.
  32. You can click on OK/Stop or press Escape at any time to disconnect
  33. Dialer from the modem (the modem will affect your phone speaker volume
  34. until you do so).  If you have not picked up your phone when you select
  35. OK/Stop, the line will be dropped (hungup).
  36.      The last number dialed is displayed by Dialer, even when it is
  37. closed and re-opened.  You can select Dial or press Enter to have
  38. Dialer make a call using the currently displayed number.
  39.      For your convenience, the license number XDEVAL will allow you
  40. evaluate this application for a limited time without the usual reminder
  41. screens popping up.

  43.                         Non-registered users
  44.      This release is a demonstration version and as such is not to be
  45. sold.  Dialer may only be distributed for free (or at cost) as the
  46. following group of files: DIALER.EXE, DIALER.TXT, DIAL.XLM, DIAL.TXT,
  47. ADVANCED.XLM, ADVANCED.TXT, WINWORD.TXT, METZ.ORD, METZORD.TXT.  These
  48. files may not be modified in any way.
  49.      Use for purposes other than evaluation requires payment of the
  50. registration fee.  Once you register and receive a license number you are
  51. automatically allowed to upgrade to future releases.  It is important
  52. that you register this application to help insure continued support and
  53. development.  Our intention is to provide useful, user-friendly
  54. applications at a low cost, and your support helps make that possible.
  55.      All available functionality is enabled in this version to provide
  56. you the ability to effectively evaluate this application.

  61.                             Using Dialer
  62.      If you have trouble dialing a number, make sure that your configuration
  63. is correctly set.  Phone numbers are not validated and are assumed to be in
  64. a Hayes compatable format.
  65.      You will need to register Dialer in order to add more than 10 names
  66. to the menu.

  145.    attempt to "reach out and dial" via a wider range of modems
  146.    caused some new incompatibilities.  So, now there is an option
  147.    to reset the modem in the configuration dialog.  If you have
  148.    trouble getting Dialer to dial a number, try selecting the
  149.    "Reset modem before dialing" option.  If you can't get Dialer
  150.    to dial and you are sure that the configuration is correct or
  151.    it did work in the past, please let us know.

  154. *  Dialer did not work with some older or non-standard Hayes
  155.    compatible modems.  This version now should work on a wider
  156.    variety of Hayes "compatible" modems.  The performance of the
  157.    dialing process has been improved as well.
  158. *  The Dial button now becomes the OK/Stop button when dialing is
  159.    in progress.  Simply click on the OK/Stop button once the number
  160.    has been dialed and you have picked up the phone, or when you
  161.    which to stop the dialing process.
  162. *  An option to display various area codes and country codes has been
  163.    added to the Info menu.  The values can be sorted numerically or
  164.    alphabetically.
  165. *  The configuration dialog will ignore the preliminary modem command
  166.    if it is set to ATDT or ATDP as this is already automatically

  179.    is included (DIAL.XLM).  Be sure that you have configured your
  180.    modem with Dialer.
  181.    When using Microsoft Excel, load DIAL.XLM, then, to dial a number,
  182.    select a cell in your spreadsheet which contains a phone number and
  183.    press CTRL+D (Control D).  Dialer will then begin the process of
  184.    dialing the number.  A dialog box will appear asking you to pickup
  185.    the phone.  Press OK after the number has been dialed and your
  186.    phone is off hook.
  187. *  A preliminary modem command has been added to the Control Modem
  188.    dialog.  This field can be set to a modem command you wish to
  189.    have sent just before Dialer dials a number.  For example, some
  190.    users need to turn the speaker on, so they would place ATM1 in
  191.    this field, and Dialer will issue an ATM1 to the modem before
  192.    dialing.  Other possible uses would be for volume control.
  193.    See your modem reference manual for the command options and
  194.    syntax.  Note, only certain commands are useful for this option.
  195.    Does anybody want a post dialing modem command option?
  196. *  Several modifications have been made to improve the dialing process
  197.    and modem compatibilities.

  200. * Dialer will now dial phone numbers containing characters.  Each
  201.   character is translated to the corresponding number on a normal
  202.   phone dial pad before dialing.  (i.e.  555-SNOW will be dialed
  203.   as 555-7669)  The characters can be upper or lower case.  Note
  204.   that some characters are not on the dialpad and will not be
  205.   translated.
